But here’s the real question: how can you always know you’re finding the best wines?

Blind tastings have shown again and again that a higher price doesn’t always mean a better tasting wine. Fancy labels and witty names catch the eye, but they won’t always make your taste buds happy. Even if you’re not a budding sommelier, you can still drink like one. That’s where Wine Access comes in.

Wine Access review 2026

Wine Access review vineyard on a lush mountainside in a premier wine region
Wine Access sources bottles from top wine regions around the world.

Wine Access is more than another online wine shop. Its team tastes and researches more than 20,000 wines every year, and only about 1 out of 18 bottles makes the cut. Every wine is judged on taste and value, not just name recognition, so the bottles that ship to you have already passed a tough test.

The selection team includes sommeliers and a Master of Wine, one of the rarest credentials in the wine world. They use their industry connections to secure limited releases and small-lot bottles you’re unlikely to spot at your local shop.

Why trust their picks?

  • Expert curation: wines are hand-selected by a team of wine professionals
  • High standards: bottles are chosen for taste and value, not just a famous label
  • Global discoveries: you’ll find rare wines from around the world
  • Critic-scored wines: many selections carry strong scores on the 100-point rating scale critics use

Verdict: The wines in a Wine Access box have survived the Hunger Games of wine tastings. It’s one of the easiest ways to discover great wines from around the world without doing the homework yourself.

Wine Access review subscription box delivery with curated wine selections
A Wine Access box looks ordinary on the outside. The bottles inside beat out thousands of others.

What’s included with each Wine Access box?

Getting a Wine Access shipment feels like a small event. From the outside, the box looks like any other. But every wine inside beat out thousands of competitors on taste and value, and that’s pretty remarkable.

Each shipment covers a range of regions and styles, built around a theme that helps you learn a little more about wine. You can dig in as deep as you like, or simply enjoy what’s in the glass.

Every bottle comes with a collectible tasting card.

Collectible tasting guides come with each bottle. They cover the wine’s characteristics, best food pairings, where it’s from, and the story of how it was made, from vine to glass.

The back of each card has space to rate the wine and jot notes on its look, smell, and taste. There’s even room to record who you shared it with and the occasion, so you can look back on how each bottle became part of your own story.

Your tasting notes become a record of how your palate grows over time.

At the very least, the cards are a great way to track which bottles you love and see how your palate develops. For an even more immersive experience, Wine Access offers videos where one of its wine experts guides you through each tasting and the story behind the bottle. If you’re not ready to visit a winery, it’s an easy way to bring the tasting room home.

How the Discovery Club experience works: our sample box

Note: club selections change every quarter. The wines below came in our Discovery Club shipment and may no longer be available, but they show the quality and variety you can expect.

Our Discovery Club box showed off what Wine Access does best: quality, value, and a little education with every bottle. Here’s what we tasted.

Martin Ray Cabernet from Wine Access next to an artisanal cheese and charcuterie board
Martin Ray Cabernet Sauvignon with a cheese and charcuterie board.

2017 Martin Ray Cabernet Sauvignon, Santa Cruz Mountains

Type: Red
Region: Santa Cruz Mountains, California
Grape: Cabernet Sauvignon
Body: Full-bodied
Pairs with: Red meat, hard cheeses

This deep, dark, mountain-grown Cabernet spent 16 months in French oak and opens with notes of dark cherry, bright red fruit, and herbs. Critic James Suckling gave it 94 points, praising its aromas of crushed berries and bark with black tea undertones. It’s a natural match for a cheese board or our Greek meze board.

Round slate cheese board next to Italian Ciliegiolo red wine from Wine Access
Ciliegiolo, a rare Italian red, with a slate cheese board.

2018 Bussoletti Leonardo Ciliegiolo Narni IGT

Type: Red
Region: Umbria, Italy
Grape: Ciliegiolo
Body: Medium-bodied
Pairs with: Cured meats, red meat, cheeses, pizza

Ciliegiolo takes its name from ciliegia, the Italian word for cherry. This old Italian grape was nearly forgotten until Leonardo Bussoletti helped revive it at his vineyard in Narni, Umbria, where the zip code just happens to be 05035. Suckling scored it 90 points, noting compote-like red plum and raspberry fruit, with hints of wild herbs and spice. It’s perfect with pizza, so check out our pizza party tips or plan a holiday pizza party around it.

Wine Access Albarino white wine bottle on a rustic surface
A crisp Albariño from Spain’s Rías Baixas region.

2018 Adegas Galegas D. Pedro Soutomaior Albariño, Rías Baixas

Type: White
Region: Rías Baixas, Spain
Grape: 100% Albariño
Style: Bone dry
Pairs with: Spicy dishes, fish, shellfish, poultry, vegetables

Made in northwest Spain and aged in stainless steel, this Albariño is bright, floral, and crisp, with notes of apple, lime, peach, and plenty of minerality. Albariño is meant to be enjoyed young, so there’s no need to cellar it. Pour it with sushi, ceviche, lobster, or spicy Thai and Indian dishes. It would be perfect with our honey sriracha shrimp tacos, easy shrimp fajitas, or a night of making sushi at home.

The Wine Access tasting experience

What impressed us most wasn’t only the wine, though it was excellent. It was the whole learning experience. Each bottle came with:

  • Detailed tasting notes from the Wine Access team
  • The story of the winemaker and vineyard
  • Specific food pairing ideas
  • A collectible tasting card for your own notes
  • A guided video tasting with a wine expert

It turns a glass of wine into a small lesson. Beginners and seasoned wine lovers alike will learn something new with each shipment.

Want a box like ours? The Discovery Club ships 6 hand-picked bottles with tasting cards and video lessons, four times a year.

How much does Wine Access cost in 2026?

Wine Access clubs range from $120 per shipment for the Sunset Wine Club up to $400 for the Collector’s Club. The Discovery Club, the one we tested and the most popular pick for new members, is still $150 per quarterly shipment, the same price it was when we first reviewed it. That works out to about $25 a bottle with free shipping.

Ordering from the shop without a membership? Ground shipping is free on orders of $150 or more. Club members also get 10% off every additional bottle, which adds up if you find a wine you love.

Is Wine Access worth it?

Based on our experience, Wine Access is worth it for most wine lovers, especially at the Discovery Club level. Here’s how it stacks up.

  • Expertly curated wines you won’t find in most stores
  • Free shipping on every club shipment
  • Tasting cards and video lessons with each club wine
