Heading to the shore is the default summer trip, but this year the thought of crowded boardwalks, beach traffic, and shielding a bucket of French fries from dive-bombing seagulls had me less than enthusiastic. Instead, I headed to Peddler’s Village in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. One of Pennsylvania’s most unique destinations, Peddler’s Village is a colonial 18th-century style village with 60+ open-air shops, a 67-room inn, and even a restored working 1922 antique carousel. With 8 full-service restaurants, a taproom, a wine tasting room, and gourmet treats of all kinds, Peddler’s Village is a playground for foodies.

With country charm nestled in every corner, Peddler’s Village is like a real-life Mayberry that attracts visitors from all over year-round. One of my favorite things about it is that in between treasure seeking in quaint shops, you can also enjoy the outdoors as you stroll through winding brick pathways with lush blooming gardens. It’s a wonderful way to enjoy the summer weather while getting some shopping in.

This summer, the village transforms into a cross-country American road trip with life-sized sand sculptures celebrating the country’s 250th birthday, plus the magical surprise of Santa and Mrs. Claus taking their summer vacation here in July. It’s also worth knowing that USA TODAY named Peddler’s Village the #2 shopping center in America, so if you’ve been thinking about visiting, now is the time.

Peddler’s Village History: How It Began With a Farmers Market and a California Dream

After a few trips to California in the late 1950s and early 1960s, Earl Jamison, a lifelong Bucks County resident who ran a farmers market, found himself in awe of the romantic storybook-style architecture he discovered in Carmel-by-the-Sea and Disneyland. So much so, he was inspired to create something similar back home. Securing a,000 loan from his uncle, Earl purchased an old 6-acre chicken farm in the small town of Lahaska, PA. Seamlessly blending the farm’s original historic buildings into the design of his charming colonial shopping village, Earl opened Peddler’s Village with only one restaurant (the Cock ‘n Bull) and 14 shops. With much success and growth over the years, Peddler’s Village now spans over 42 acres and is considered one of the region’s favorite destinations for shopping and events year-round.

All summer long, guests can experience an epic coast-to-coast American adventure right in Bucks County during Sights in Sand: An American Road Trip, a village-wide display of magnificent sand sculptures celebrating America’s 250th birthday. Master sand sculptors recreate the natural wonders, national landmarks, and triumphs of human achievement across five major regions of the country: Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, Southwest, and West. The free display runs June 1 through August 31, 2026.

At a Glance: June 1 through August 31, 2026  |  Free and open to the public  |  Self-guided road trip through all five regions  |  Full event details

In addition to viewing the sculptures, guests can pick up a field guide from the Visitor & Event Center to begin a self-guided educational adventure through all five regions. In between sightseeing, the Village restaurants are serving regional specialties throughout June: Northeast dishes at Cock ‘n Bull, Southeast at Hart’s Tavern, Midwest at Peddler’s Pub, Southwest at Buttonwood Grill, and West Coast at Earl’s New American.

The sculptures were created by two world-class teams. Team Sandtastic (Tampa Bay), with over 30 years of experience and a Guinness World Record for the tallest sandcastle ever handbuilt in under 100 man hours, and Sand Sculptures by John Gowdy, a retired Atlantic City firefighter who has won first-place honors at just about every major sand sculpture competition on the planet. Past clients include Pope Francis at the Vatican and the White House Commission on Remembrance.

Located across from the gazebo in an early colonial-style saltbox flanked by a working water wheel, Pine Wreath & Candle is one of the most iconic shops at Peddler’s Village, inside and out. Stop in for a dose of Christmas in summertime while shopping their massive collection of Christmas ornaments and country-style home decor, as well as a huge selection of candles of all shapes and sizes. This shop had me happy and in the holiday spirit even in 90-degree weather.

Clusters Handcrafted Popcorn at Peddler's Village.

Indulge your taste buds while exploring Peddler’s Village with a visit to Clusters Popcorn for handcrafted specialty popcorn that’s freshly popped every day. You can sample all flavors in-store before buying. Among their popular sweet varieties are original Caramel Corn, Toasted Coconut, and our personal favorite Cookie Explosion, which combines pieces of dark chocolate cookie with caramel corn for a perfect balance of sweetness with a hint of salt. For savory fans, try the classic White Cheddar, the Cheesy Doodle (which tastes exactly like a cheese doodle), spicy Buffalo Blue, or the Sweet Habanero.

Taste Artisanal Honey at Sticky Situations

Sticky Situations artisanal honey shop at Peddler's Village.

After a visit to Sticky Situations and a chat with shop owner Stephen, I now have an even greater appreciation for bees and the wonder that is honey. Stephen, a food chemist who’s an expert in a technique called withholding, offers artisanal raw honey in an incredible selection of flavors I’ve never seen anywhere else. The honey is 100% raw, meaning it’s not heated or processed, which preserves its beneficial nutrients and full flavor. We had to take home the dark chocolate, habanero, ginger, and anise honey, but their blueberry, raspberry, and green apple honey had me dreaming up baking projects for weeks.

Taste Gourmet Infused Oils and Vinegars at Extra Virgin

Extra Virgin gourmet oils and vinegars at Peddler's Village.

Next door to Sticky Situations, Extra Virgin offers premium artisan olive oils and infused vinegars in an in-store experience similar to a wine tasting. Browse and taste freely, then have your oil and vinegar selections blended at their bar to discover your perfect combinations. One delicious flavor combination we tried, referred to as “Sicily in a jar,” was a mix of their Meyer lemon-infused olive oil and their Blood Orange Vinegar. Absolutely perfect for summer.

Love Hot Sauce? Visit Pepper Palace!

Pepper Palace hot sauce shop at Peddler's Village.

Pepper Palace carries dozens of delicious hot sauces, all of which you can try before you buy, with complimentary tortilla chips. They specialize in all-natural products handcrafted in small batches covering everything from wild to mild: hot sauce, salsa, dips, seasonings, BBQ sauce, marinades, pepper jellies, rubs, and more.

The hottest sauce is called “The End: Flatline Hot Sauce,” made with reapers, ghost peppers, scorpion peppers, 7 pot chocolate douglah, and a hefty dose of pepper extract. Customers must sign a waiver and be 18 or older to try it. Our personal favorites: Serrano Lime, Scorpion Death Stalker, Horseradish Oyster, and Ghost Pepper Hot Sauce.

Tip: Mix and match any three items in the store and get one free.

Take Your Pantry to the Next Level at Savory Spice

This interactive experience allows you to build your own terrarium masterpiece. No green thumb needed. Choose from a variety of vessels or bring your own, then select from sand, pebbles, moss, shells, bark, air plants, and more. It’s engaging, relaxing, and perfect for all ages. You’ll leave with a remarkable living centerpiece that doubles as a work of art.

For another hands-on workshop, try creating your own Kokedama, a “moss ball” originating in Japan over five centuries ago as a more accessible form of bonsai. At the plant bar, you’ll choose a plant, round out the root ball, wrap it in damp moss, and secure it with twine, creating a natural hanger for a unique and beautiful aesthetic. Kokedama is really low maintenance and can last up to three years without being rewrapped. Workshops start at per person. Greenology is located next to the Village General Store on the corner of Street Road.

Discover Your Family History at What’s in a Name

One of the most singular stops in the village, What’s in a Name is a Historical Research Center on the Village Green where you can uncover your family name history and Coat of Arms. With research spanning over 40 years and more than one million names worldwide, it makes for a genuinely meaningful and personalized gift to bring home.

They also carry an impressive collection of original hand-colored Civil War era antique maps (never reproductions) by the first American map publishers Colton, Mitchell, and Johnson from the 1800s. A wide selection of country and state flags and first-name prints round out the shop. It’s the kind of place you wander into for five minutes and end up staying much longer.

Shop 400 American Artists at Artisans Gallery

For art lovers and gift hunters alike, Artisans Gallery is one of the most rewarding stops in the village. Representing over 400 American artists working across jewelry, pottery, glass, wood, fibers, and hand-painted furniture, this shop has been a proud part of Peddler’s Village since 1981. Everything here is made in America and priced to be genuinely accessible, which is increasingly rare for work of this quality. Whether you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind piece to hang on your wall or a gift that will actually mean something, Artisans Gallery is worth taking your time in.

A Shop for Pen and Paper Lovers: Bucks Bespokery

The newest addition to the village, Bucks Bespokery is a specialty stationery shop dedicated to the pleasures of writing by hand. They carry the largest in-store selection of vibrant inks between DC and NYC, alongside fountain pens, journals, fine papers, and thoughtful cards. There are also creative tools for kids and families, making it a great stop for all ages. Brands include Blackwing, Rhodia, Platinum Pens, Jacques Herbin, LAMY, Pelikan, Faber-Castell, Archer & Olive, Retro51, and a range of Japanese stationery brands. If you’ve ever wanted to get into fountain pens or journaling, this is the place that will make it happen.

Enjoy a Tasting or Wine Slushy at Nissley Vineyards

Nissley Vineyards tasting room at Peddler's Village.

Any day with wine is a good day. And one of the best spots in the village to unwind with a glass is at the Nissley Vineyards Tasting Room. This satellite location to the winery in Bainbridge, PA sells their award-winning, locally produced wines by the glass, and offers wine tastings and full bottles to go. In the summer that means wine slushies, which are exactly as good as they sound. We recommend sitting out front on their patio to enjoy the quaint village vibes.

If cupcakes aren’t your only craving, they also carry cookies, tarts, pies, croissants, muffins, scones, bars, donuts, individual cheesecakes, and coffee cakes. We were blown away by their buttery croissant-like pastries, which we regret not taking some home. Grab your goodies to go or sit down under the shade with an iced coffee.

Grab Some Coffee and the Best Cinnamon Buns Ever at Mama Hawk’s

Mama Hawk's Kitchen and Coffee at Peddler's Village.

When my caffeine craving hits in the village, one of my favorite go-to’s is Mama Hawk’s Kitchen and Coffee. This adorable coffee house with modern farmhouse vibes serves up specialty coffees and house-made baked goods, bagels, cookies, muffins, paninis, and pizzas. But there’s one thing you can’t miss: the cinnamon buns. Fluffy, chewy, and perfectly glazed, baked fresh daily in a variety of special flavors. The coffee is great here, but whatever you do, make sure to grab some buns to go. You can thank me later.

Visit an Updated Old-Fashioned Soda Bar at Fizzy Mama

Try an Authentic Liege Waffle at Nina’s Waffles & Ice Cream

Nina's Waffles and Ice Cream at Peddler's Village.

On a hot summer day in the village, we made a beeline for Nina’s Waffles & Ice Cream. Along with small-batch ice cream in seriously delicious flavors, Nina’s specializes in Liege waffles: a Belgian-style waffle made with brioche-style yeast dough, sprinkled with coarse sugar before pressing, creating a lovely caramelization and a slight crunch along the waffle’s irregular edges.

Liege waffles and ice cream at Nina's at Peddler's Village.

We topped our waffle with a scoop of their Mad Crack: Madagascar vanilla ice cream with chunks of saltine cracker brittle, bits of toffee, and chocolate. One bite and we fell in love. Don’t miss the toppings like dulce de leche, whipped cream, and sprinkles!

Dine at Cock ‘n Bull, Peddler’s Village’s Flagship Restaurant

The first restaurant in the village, celebrating over 60 years in business, Cock ‘n Bull has been a tradition for locals here for generations. The menu blends fresh seasonal dishes with beloved long-time classics like the Chicken Pot Pie and French Onion Soup.

On a recent visit we loved the Buttermilk Fried Chicken appetizer served over cornbread with bourbon honey syrup (outstanding), and the Roasted Apple Flatbread with ricotta, baked apples, fresh greens, spicy honey, and apple-citrus vinaigrette (generous enough to share as a light meal). For mains, the 6oz. Filet Mignon with burgundy reduction proved exactly why Cock ‘n Bull is famous for their steaks.

First Fridays tip: On the first Friday of each month, Cock ‘n Bull next door offers a Prime Rib Melt with fries and a refillable fountain soda for just $16.75. A great reason to plan your visit around that date and hit both restaurants.

Don’t leave without dessert. We ordered both the Strawberry Crunch Cake with layers of strawberry cake, cream cheese buttercream, and strawberry shortcake crumbs, and the Seasonal Crème Brûlée, currently funnel cake flavored and absolutely delicious.

Enjoy Cocktails, Small Bites, and Live Music at Red Fox Lounge

The Red Fox Cocktail and Mojito at The Red Fox Lounge

Located in the Cock ‘n Bull Restaurant lobby, the Red Fox Lounge turned out to be so much more than we expected. What started as a plan to swing by for cocktails became an entire evening. It’s a genuinely cozy spot to slow down, sip something good, and settle in before dinner.

What to order: Ask for The Red Fox, the house signature made with Hornitos Plata, triple sec, lime juice, raspberry puree, and cranberry juice. It’s perfectly balanced and exactly what you want in hand when the music starts. The Mojito is another great call.

Every Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., the lounge hosts Local Picks, a weekly live music series featuring a different local artist each week. We caught Brad Staudle performing and the vibe was perfect: intimate, unhurried, and exactly the kind of thing that makes Peddler’s Village feel like more than just a shopping trip.

Happy Hour runs Monday through Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. with cocktails, glasses of wine, and draft beers. The food menu features bites like All-American Smash Burgers, Reuben Spuds, and Chips & Dip. Arrive early for happy hour, stay for the music.

Try the Menu at Hart’s Tavern

We had an absolutely delightful meal at Hart’s Tavern. This place exudes a super casual and timeless old-school pub vibe that never goes out of style. To start, we had Pretzel Bites served with beer cheese and dill pickle dip, and the Elote Corn Bites with tajin aioli, queso fresco, and cilantro.

The Nashville Chicken Sandwich is a must for anyone who loves heat. A crispy chicken cutlet coated in Nashville hot oil, loaded with dill pickles and green cabbage slaw on a brioche bun. It hits all the right notes: crunchy, spicy, tangy, and satisfying.

The Italian Roast Pork Sandwich is absolutely stellar: tender pulled pork, sweet pickled peppers, a long hots spread, aged provolone, and garlic aioli. The Buffalo Fries on the side turned up the heat perfectly. Hart’s also offers a variety of craft beers on draft and in bottles, wines by the glass, and signature cocktails to round out the meal.

When you’re ready for breakfast or the craving for a burger strikes, head to Buttonwood Grill, where the motto is “Great Food…Good Friends…Fun Times.” Serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner with award-winning burgers, stone-fired thin-crust pizzas, creative salads, and a variety of delicious appetizers, there’s a full bar with craft beer, wine, and original cocktails.

Breakfast here is worth waking up for. The Sandwich of the Month changes monthly and is always a great value. The new Buttonwood Skillet is a hearty, satisfying plate of ham, sausage, bacon, tomato, sharp cheddar, caramelized onions, spinach, scallions, home fries, English muffin, and two eggs any style. It’s the kind of breakfast that keeps you going all day.

Order the Cinnamon French Toast Soldiers to share alongside your coffee. Crispy outside, custardy inside, served with maple syrup, crème anglaise, and your choice of bacon or sausage links for dipping. One of the most fun things on the breakfast menu.

New this summer: Al Pastor Pork Tacos with soft flour tortillas, avocado, cilantro, grilled diced pineapple, and red onion, plus Mexican Street Corn with lime crema, paprika, queso fresco, and cilantro. These two went great together. For dessert, the Cinnamon Bun Bread Pudding with warm cinnamon swirl, vanilla glaze, crème anglaise, and vanilla ice cream is a must.

Another new addition worth ordering is the Carne Asada: a beautifully seared skirt steak finished with chimichurri sauce, served alongside dirty rice and a generous portion of grilled zucchini, yellow squash, and carrots. The chimichurri is bright and herby, and the steak has a great char on it. A solid dinner option when you want something a little heartier than a burger or pizza.

Earl’s New American Is the Place for Steaks and Seafood

For casual dining in a refined, rustic-modern setting, Earl’s New American offers a menu inspired by farm-to-table ingredients and infusions of both local and international flavors. From raw bar options and steaks to appetizers, fresh seafood, and pasta, there’s something for every palate.

Some of our favorite starters: Lobster Dumplings with lemongrass, ginger, chili oil, sweet soy, and crispy potato sticks dusted in togarashi; Burrata with spring onion and berry compote, fried tomatoes, and crushed pistachios; and Keftedes, Greek beef meatballs with tzatziki, cucumber slaw, and sesame seeds.

Shrimp and Grits with fried okra towers on a rustic wooden table. Warm glow.. One shrimp on a fork. Candle in the background.

Earl’s recently updated their longtime Shrimp and Grits to a new version we loved: Shrimp and Grits with Creole Tasso ham tomato sauce, crispy okra, roasted Brussels sprout hash, and Cabot cheddar grits. We will definitely order it again. The Crab Cake Sandwich is another standout. Even guests from Maryland rave about it, which really says something. Don’t skip dessert either: the Orange Espresso Torte and Hazelnut Citrus Bar are both exceptional.

If you’re visiting for lunch, don’t miss the Korean Beef Bowl, a lunch-only dish with steamed jasmine rice, scallions, kimchi, carrots, sugar snap peas, and Korean BBQ sauce. It’s one of the most flavorful and satisfying things on the menu and a great reason to plan a midday stop at Earl’s.

The She-Crab Bisque is seriously one of the best around. It’s a must-order every single visit.

Our tip: Skip ordering the crab cake as a sandwich and instead order a steak with a crab cake on the side. Instant surf and turf, and honestly one of the best combinations on the menu.

Enjoy Brunch All Day Long at FresCafe

Family Fun at Giggleberry Fair

No summer visit to Peddler’s Village is complete without a stop at Giggleberry Fair (167 Carousel Ln, Lahaska), the village’s all-ages indoor family fun center. The centerpiece is a gorgeous working 1922 restored Philadelphia Toboggan Company carousel, one of the most beautiful antique carousels still operating in the region. Kids and adults alike love it.

After a few rides, head into the arcade to play games and win prizes. For something more physical, Giggleberry Mountain is an incredible three-story, six-level indoor obstacle course and maze that’s perfect for burning off some energy on a hot summer afternoon.

The Painted Pony Cafe inside Giggleberry Fair has you covered for food and drinks, with pizza, burgers, nachos, chicken tenders, funnel cake fries, gelati, milkshakes, and cotton candy. There’s wine and beer for the grown-ups too. It’s a great spot to recharge before heading back out to shop.

If you’re planning an overnight stay, the best part besides more time to spend here is that you never have to leave the comfort of this charming little village. The onsite Golden Plough Inn has 67 rooms throughout the village as well as in their main inn building, which was originally a tavern dating back to the 1850s.

While the decor and furnishings are inspired by fine country inns, modern necessities like flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and free Wi-Fi are also included. With a variety of room categories and sizes to choose from, the Golden Plough easily accommodates families, friends, or a romantic getaway. We’ve always found the rooms spacious, and many have large tubs and gas fireplaces which can be a welcome dose of relaxation after a long day of shopping and eating.

During a recent visit, we stayed in Room 110, one of the newly remodeled bi-level suites situated among the shops. The lower level has a generous living area with dining space for 6, a full-sized refrigerator, an in-room Keurig, a cozy gas fireplace, a spacious bathroom with a luxurious soaking tub, a pullout sofa, a large flat-screen TV, and a balcony.

Peddler’s Village Insider Tips

Stop into the Visitor and Events Center in the red barn on Street Road for recommendations, maps, local info, and souvenirs. You can also shop the General Store inside for seasonal tees and edible treats including jams, jellies, sauces, and butters.

Go Monday to Thursday to Beat Weekend Crowds. Most big events take place on the weekends, which means lots of people. Visiting midweek had us feeling like we had the place to ourselves. Certain shops close by 5 p.m. during the week, so give yourself enough time to explore.

Enjoy Outdoor Dining. Five restaurants in the village offer full-service outdoor dining. All restaurants offer takeout that can be enjoyed at one of the many outdoor tables. Picnic blankets are welcome in designated grassy areas.

Parking is Free. The village is surrounded by many parking lots, all free for visitors. Guests at the Golden Plough Inn are assigned personal parking spots close to their rooms throughout the village.

Make it a Getaway. Day trips here are great, but staying overnight is our favorite way to roll. No need to rush out to beat traffic. The Golden Plough Inn rooms are lovely and quiet, plus in the mornings, the gardens here are such a lovely place to enjoy your coffee. It’s really great for romantic getaways, families, or shopping trips with friends.

Bring a Cooler Bag. There are so many great things to try here but honestly, there’s only so much a person can eat in a day. Pack a cooler bag to keep your gourmet treats or leftovers cool on the ride home. If you’re staying overnight, the Golden Plough rooms have mini-fridges to keep food and drinks cold until you’re ready to leave.
